Benchmarking: Cross-Industry Summary Report 2008
The Summary Report for the Cross-Industry Report of Standard Benchmarks provides
a more detailed look at key performance indicators than the cross-industry metric
report published in May 2008. The summary report provides a comparative look at
the year-over-year cross-industry reports published in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
This year's summary report also includes a list of the different industry classifications
being used by CAPS Research, and a broad definition of each industry classification.

Benchmarking: 2008 Engineering/Construction Industry Equipment Material Procurement
Performance Report
One process to determine the efficiencies in a sequence of activities from start
to finish is found in cycle-time measurements. The companies participating in the
engineering/construction industry survey were asked to provide the top three cycle-time
metrics used to measure procurement efficiencies. The end result? About two-thirds
of the participants reported 'on-time delivery' as the most important measure, followed
closely by 'RFP/RFP to purchase order' award cycle. Also new to this industry report
is information about the top quality metrics used to measure supplier/subcontractor
performance, and the percent of organizations who track the procurement cycle time
for items of low value. This year's report also looks at other key supply management
performance measures including organizational structures, schedule compliance, and
professional development.

CPO Insights: Defining, Calculating and Targeting Procurement Savings for Total
Spend
Most organizations use the broad definition of spend as being "all goods and services
purchased from suppliers during the reporting period". Procurement savings components
such as cost avoidance and cost reduction may be calculated distinctively at organizations
to reach different goals. Read what our CPO community has to say regarding how their
procurement organizations document and report "procurement savings" and who is responsible
for spend not under the control of procurement.
