Best Practices Workshops
The Best Practices Workshops, modeled on the International Executive Purchasing
Roundtables, are held annually. We invite the second-level executive — those that
report to the Roundtable attendee, for the most part — to this two-and-a-half-day
forum for best practices sharing and small-group focus sessions. Attendance is through
invitation by CAPS Research or nomination by the CPO.

General Session
Highlights of Past Events:
10th Annual Best Practices Workshop
10/4/2009 - 10/6/2009,
Scottsdale, Arizona
Agenda
Even in an uncertain economy, one key to maintaining a competitive advantage is staying current on supply practices and taking advantage of opportunities to learn, network, and gain insights. More than 50 supply executives from CAPS Research sponsoring firms did just that by attending the Best Practices Workshop, October 4-6, in Scottsdale, Arizona. This year's event was the 10th Annual Workshop – the primary CAPS Research forum for senior supply practitioners, typically those reporting to the CPO. Participants discussed how the past year has challenged them to drive improvements, and then got an economic outlook for 2010 from a leading economist. Case study presentations were given on supplier risk analysis, global talent issues, resourcing in the new economy, and strategic value management. In addition to large group sessions, small group discussions, and informal networking time, the attendees had ample opportunity to query each other on specific practices as a means of informal benchmarking.

Case study presentations from four supply executives highlighted best practices in the areas of: environmental sustainability, global sourcing, cost reductions, and talent management. Beyond the formal sessions, there was ample time for networking, where many discussions centered on the current economic turbulence and supply’s role in sustaining organizational operations during this time.
